Yes, we do insure electric bikes. This includes MTB, road, Cargo, hybrid, Brompton Electric bikes and bikes with conversion kits .
An e-bike (Electrically assisted pedal cycle - EAPC) must meet certain requirements, so that it is not considered to be a motor vehicle within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act.
The requirements are that an E-bike;
- is primarily propelled by human pedal power with the assistance of an electric motor, and
- must have a maximum continuous rated power of 250 watts or under; and
- is restricted to 15.5mph or 25 km/h; and
- is not 'twist-and-go' (electrically assisted by a throttle only) unless 'Type approved'; and
- cannot be ridden by someone under the age of 14.
If you’re not sure whether your e-bike is subject to the Road Traffic Act, the following link provides all of the information you’ll need - E-bike regulations in Great Britain
We can also confirm this for you, so please just get in touch with the team - support@bikmo.com
