Are there restrictions for e-bike riders?

What e-bike can I use?

Your e-bike must be legal in the UK. It must also meet the rules in your Amazon Now agreement. You must not change (modify) it.

In the UK, a legal e-bike:

  • only helps you when you pedal
  • has a motor of 250 watts or less
  • stops helping when you reach 15.5 miles per hour (25 km/h).

Some e-bikes sold online do not follow these rules. The law treats them as motorbikes. Courier Protect does not cover them.

‍

What does “modified” mean?

It means someone has changed your e-bike from how the maker built it. For example:

  • fitting a chip, app or kit to make it go faster
  • removing the speed limit
  • fitting a more powerful motor or battery.

If your e-bike is modified, you are not covered if you hurt someone or damage their property.

‍

Do I need to look after my e-bike?

Yes. You must keep your e-bike in good working order and follow the maker’s instructions. Check your brakes, tyres and lights often.

If an accident happens because you did not look after your e-bike, we may not pay the claim.

‍

Does Courier Protect cover my e-bike if someone steals it or it gets damaged?

No. Courier Protect does not cover your e-bike. It also does not cover your phone or other things you own. For this, you need separate insurance.
