What is public liability insurance?

This part of your cover is called public liability insurance.

What does this cover?

You might accidentally injure someone, or damage their property, while you deliver for Amazon Now. If this happens, they may ask you to pay. If the law says you are responsible, we will pay for you, up to £1,000,000 for one incident. We also pay the legal costs that go with the claim.

Examples: You hit a pedestrian and they break their arm. You scratch a parked car as you ride past. You knock over a shop’s sign and break it.

This cover also applies when you walk to or from the door to deliver a package.

‍

When am I covered?

You are only covered while you work on an Amazon Now delivery block.

  • Cover starts when you ride to the collection point, up to 30 minutes before you collect your packages. If you accept the block later than this, cover starts when you accept it.
  • Cover ends when you deliver your last package, or at the planned end time of your block. It ends at whichever happens first.

Example: You will collect your packages at 10:00. You are covered while you ride to the collection point from 09:30. You deliver your last package at 12:15, so your cover ends at 12:15.

‍

Am I covered when I am not working?

No. This part of your cover is only for when you are working on an Amazon Now delivery block. For example, you are not covered when you ride to see friends or ride home after your block ends.

Remember, the cover for your own injuries works 24 hours a day, anywhere in the UK. See “If you get hurt”.

‍

Am I covered if I deliver for another rider?

Yes. You are covered if you do deliveries for another Amazon Now rider as their substitute. Your own Amazon Now agreement must be active.

But if someone else does your deliveries for you, your policy does not cover them. They need their own insurance.

‍

What is not covered?

We will not pay for:

  • damage to the packages you deliver
  • damage to your own e-bike, phone or other things
  • your own injuries (see “If you get hurt”)
  • accidents when you ride on a pavement, footpath or pedestrian area, unless a sign or local rule allows bikes there
  • riding in a dangerous way, doing stunts, or deliberately breaking the Highway Code (the UK road rules)
  • using an e-bike that is not legal, or that someone has changed (modified)
  • accidents when someone else does your deliveries for you
  • fines or penalties
  • anything that happens after your Amazon agreement ends or Amazon suspends it
  • criminal, dishonest or deliberate acts
  • claims made outside the UK.

This is not the full list. Please read the policy wording for all the details.

‍

What should I do if I hurt someone or damage their property?

  1. Make sure everyone is safe. Call 999 if someone is badly hurt.
  2. Do not say the accident was your fault. Do not promise to pay, and do not pay any money. If you do, we may not pay the claim.
  3. Take photos. Write down names, phone numbers and what happened. Ask any witnesses for their details.
  4. Tell us immediately. See “Making a claim”.
  5. If you get any letters or legal papers about the accident, send them to us as soon as you get them.
