Insurance Excess, what is it and how much do I need to pay?

February 11, 2026

An insurance excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. When your claim is approved, we deduct the excess from your final payout.

You can always find your exact excess amount on your policy schedule.

How much excess will I pay?

Your excess is usually based on the total value of your claim:

  • For claims under £400: a flat excess of £40 applies
  • For claims over £400: 10% of the total claim value

Example

If you make a claim for a bike worth £1,000, your excess would be 10% (£100). We would then pay the remaining £900 to help you replace or repair your bike.

Can I avoid paying the excess?

If you choose a replacement bike through one of our preferred shops or partners, we’ll waive your excess completely.

As long as you’re not underinsured (meaning your amount insured covers the full cost of the replacement bike), you won’t need to pay anything towards your new bike.

When will an excess be applied?

We’ll usually apply an excess to claims for:

  • Vandalism
