What information do I need to buy cycle insurance?

January 27, 2026

To get a quote and buy insurance

You'll need:

  • Your bike's make & value - how much it would cost to replace today
  • Contact details - your name, address, phone number, and email
  • Payment details - to pay for your insurance

That's it! Once you've set up a policy, you’re covered straight away.

After you've bought insurance

Once you’re insured, it’s important to keep some documents safe. This will make claiming much easier if anything happens to your bike.

Save proof you own your bike

Keep copies of:

  • Purchase receipt
  • Photos of you with your bike
  • Bank statements showing the purchase
  • Messages with the seller (for second-hand bikes)

You can upload these to your Bikmo account to keep them safe and easy to find.

Save proof you own your accessories & clothing

If you have expensive kit, keep receipts for:

  • Helmet
  • Cycle clothing
  • Lights
  • Panniers
  • GPS or bike computer
  • Other cycling gear

Save Your Bike Lock Receipt

If you have a Sold Secure rated lock, you must keep the receipt.

This is vital for theft claims away from home – without it, we cannot process your claim.

Make sure:

  • Your lock is Sold Secure Gold or Diamond rated

  • You have the receipt stored somewhere safe

Where to save these documents

The easiest and safest place is in your Bikmo account. Upload receipts, photos, and documents there so you’ll never lose them.

Why You Need to Save Everything

If you ever need to make a claim, we’ll ask you to prove:

  • You owned the bike
  • You owned the accessories
  • You had a proper lock (for theft claims)

Having these saved now will make claiming quick and stress-free later.
