What is Wear and Tear?

Wear and Tear is included in Protect Total. It covers parts that wear out through normal riding, such as brake pads, cables, chains and bearings, when the wear affects how safe your bike is or how it works.

Wear happens gradually. Damage from a specific incident, such as a crash, is an insurance claim instead.

  • You can make up to 2 claims in any 12 month period, each up to the claim limit in your Wear and Tear terms. Several worn parts fixed in the same visit count as one claim.
  • There’s a 3 month waiting period from the day your cover starts. Nothing can be claimed before it ends.
  • We pay your retailer directly, parts and labour, so there’s nothing for you to claim back.

What isn’t covered by Wear and Tear?

  • Anything in the first 3 months of your cover
  • Wear that doesn’t affect how safe your bike is or how it works
  • Routine servicing and maintenance
  • Damage caused on purpose, or through neglect or misuse
  • Cosmetic damage: dents, scratches, chips, stains, rust or corrosion
  • Work done anywhere other than an authorized Specialized retailer
  • Wear that following Specialized’s maintenance schedule would have prevented
  • Recalls and build faults, which are a warranty question
  • Shipping costs, modifications, and costs above your claim limit

If we turn down a claim, we’ll always tell you why.
