Your insurance can be cancelled for three main reasons:
Payment issues
Your policy may be cancelled if:
- you cancelled your Direct Debit by mistake. Some policies are paid to Hiscox, so check your bank statement for that name.
- a payment fails twice. We’ll contact you when a payment fails, but if it fails twice, we have to cancel your policy.
You're not eligible for insurance
You must meet all of the following to be insured with us:
- be 18 years old or older
- live in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man
- use your bike only for personal use or commuting - if you use it for work meetings, you need Business Use cover
- earn no more than £5,000 a year from cycling competitions
- have no claims exceeding £5,000 in total over the last 5 years
- have no history of insurance being cancelled or refused
- have not been at fault for damaging someone else’s property or injuring someone while cycling
- have no more than 2 claims for bike theft or damage in the last 5 years
Your e-bike isn't street legal and therefore isn’t eligible for insurance
Your e-bike must be:
- pedal assisted
- maximum power of 250 watts
- limited to 15.5 mph
- legal to ride without a licence
We also cover ‘twist and go’ e-bikes where the model is type approved, provided the cycle complies with the speed and power restrictions above.
What to do now
It’s common to discover insurance isn’t valid only when making a claim. To avoid this:
- check your eligibility when you first buy your policy
- review your eligibility each time you renew
