How To Claim for an Event

February 11, 2026

Missing a cycling event you’ve trained for is gutting. That’s why Bikmo insurance can cover non-refundable entry fees when the unexpected gets in the way. Whether it’s a sportive, organised ride, duathlon or triathlon, here’s what you need to know about claiming back your event fees.

What is Covered?

If Cycling Event Fees cover appears on your policy schedule, you can claim for non-refundable entry fees if you’re unable to attend solely and directly because of:

  • injury to or sickness of you that prevents you from cycling.
  • Injury to or sickness of a family member requiring hospitalisation.
  • Theft of your bike.
  • Bereavement following the death of a close friend or family member.

The reason for cancelling must occur during the period of insurance and be entirely beyond your control.

Important Coverage Limits

Depending on when you purchased your policy, the following limits apply:

Policies purchased on or after 20/12/2023

You can claim for one event fee per period of insurance, up to the limit shown on your policy schedule.

Policies purchased before 20/12/2023

You can claim for one race fee per period of insurance, up to the limit shown on your policy schedule.

Excess

There’s no excess to pay when claiming specifically for cycling event fees.

What is Not Covered?

You cannot claim for event fees if:

  • The event organiser refunds you.
  • The event is cancelled by the organiser.
  • You don’t attend due to bad weather.
  • The loss is related to the financial failure of the event organiser.
  • The reason for cancellation is related to a communicable disease.

We use a simple 3-step online claims process through your Bikmo account.
